Objectives: Students should be able to explain:
a) Chapter 2: Beginnings of English America, 1607 - 1660
b) Chapter 3: Creating Anglo-America, 1660 - 1750
c) Chapter 4: Slavery, Freedom, and the Struggle for Empire to 1763

Selected readings, documents, and alternate points of view are discussed throughout the unit.
Define Key Terms
Students should create flash cards for Key Terms listed at end of each chapter above. This is not mandatory and cards will not be collected for a grade.
Assessments
a) Chapter quizzes, document analysis, writing responses, etc.
b) Unit exam- multiple choice and a writing assessment
Objectives: Students should be able to explain:
- The various motives for English colonization
- The effect of European relations with Native Americans on early European colonizing efforts
- The origins of slavery as an institution in the American Colonies
- The differences in development of the three major regions of the American Colonies
- The varying emphasis on religion in the three regions of the colonies
- The reasons for contrasting social and economic environments in each colonial region
- How French and Spanish colonies in mainland North America differed from those of England
- The consequences of British mercantilism on the Colonies (Trade Acts, etc.)
- The ebb and flow of colonial control
- The most significant consequences of the Enlightenment and Great Awakening for life in the British colonies
